Course - Cardiac rehabilitation
Date: 21 March 2018
14h00 - 18h00
Introduction:
There is a current need for debate and dialogue around the provision of rehabilitation nursing care to patients with cardiac disease from acute phase to long-term follow-up. Therefore, opportunities like these are very useful.
In light of the role of Rehabilitation Nurses, which is regulated by the Portuguese Framework of Competencies for the Nurse Specialist (OE, 2010), this course can be an opportunity for reflection on the guiding principles of the Quality Standards of Specialized Rehabilitation Nursing Care (OE, 2011).
This course emerges from the need to increase knowledge and interest in this area, to the extent that nurses aim to intervene based on the best evidence available. The path is long and, in some contexts, rehabilitation nurses are increasing their visibility among their peers, multidisciplinary team, and, above all, the patient/family. In this way, and because we will go further together, the four trainers who have already conduct fieldwork on this topic.
This course aims:
- To analyze/assess what we do, what we can do, and how we can do it in each individual case;
- To share nurses’ experiences of cardiac rehabilitation at a national and international level;
- To create synergies that will guide us towards the standardization of nursing practices in cardiac rehabilitation;
- To promote a continuum of contacts among participants so that we can measure the outcomes and eventually repeat the experience.
Course contents:
- To introduce the group and identify each participant’s reality and expectations about this course.
- To provide a short definition of cardiac rehabilitation, clinical contexts – (AMI, IC, CCT, transplants, implantation of antiarrhythmic device systems, ventilated patients…), Phases, Indications/Contraindications, Types of CR/Benefits of physical exercise/Guidelines.
- To identify the nurse’s role in CR: International projects/health education / recommended exercises / 6-minute walk test/ Quality of life scales.
- To identify which of the interventions performed by nurses can be applied to units with patients with cardiac disorders (hospitalization units other than the cardiology unit).
- To share national practices and projects: Gaia (CADIE) / CH Porto (ERIC).
- To facilitate/share strategies for the implementation of rehabilitation practices in real contexts.
- To discuss records/SAPE/Sclínico
